What is Trade Court?

Every year we get bombarded with emails about bad trades taking place in their fantasy league. We've heard it all! From collusion between two or more owners to unloading to the same owner who owns two teams in the same league. Trust us...it happens. That is why FantasyFootball.com decided to develop the a third party trade evaluator. We call it Trade Court.

Lets face it, being a fantasy league commissioner is a rewarding, yet thankless job. You're responsible for keeping up the league website, populating transactions, and making decisions that affect the outcome of the entire league. Those decisions are what get commissioners in trouble. Not because they are not sound decisions, but because they are making decisions for their friends that will affect the outcome of their fantasy season. Friends feel there should be a sense of loyalty from the commissioner when it comes to making decisions. Commissioners have to be immune to such things. They have to take into account how this decision will affect the league as a whole versus the individual. That puts any commissioner in a bad spot.

Another difficult decision for commissioners is trading. How many times has a trade ruined your fantasy league? If your league is very competitive.... then probably a lot. Rendering trade decisions is the hardest decision your league will make. After all, they must WANT to make the trade if they both agreed to it...right? Wrong!  Some trades must be analyzed to ensure that it is fair for the league. Sure, both teams might make a totally legit trade and the commissioner can easily identify those. But what about the ones in your league where 5-7 owners believe the trade is unfair? Who is on the hot seat then? That is the single most important reason we developed Trade Court.

Simply put, Trade Court is a means for league owners to file a grievance to a totally uninvolved 3rd party (Trade Court Judge), and have a fair and impartial decision rendered based on the facts.

Today your judge will be..
. Richard Paolinelli

Background: Richard Paolinelli, known as “Scribe”, enters his second year of writing for fantasy football media and his first with FantasyFootball.com. He has also written for other sports websites, including usahockey.com and MaxPreps.com during his professional sports writing career, which includes two industry awards. Richard has been playing fantasy football since the late 1980s (yes back when dinosaurs still roamed the planet) and has two league championships to his credit. His career fantasy football super bowl record of 2-3 matches the Super Bowl record of legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry, which remains a point of great pride for Richard. He is also one of the few members who knows what his career won-loss record in fantasy football is in both the regular season and in the playoffs.
